Workshops for Schools

In 2011 WordWell received funding to pilot a creative writing project at Fulham Cross Girls’ School. And so the Write 2Be Me project was born.......

Write 2Be Me is a six – twelve week writing and group-work course for Key Stage 2 and 3 students. It uses a range of stimuli to encourage and inspire students to write and enjoy writing and to share their stories with each other.

The project addresses the National Curriculum in Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening as well as the Spiritual, Cultural, Moral and Social (SCMS) and PHSE requirements. It can be adapted to student and school requirements.

Write 2Be Me fulfils the Pupil Premium funding criteria by addressing 'Barriers to Learning'.

End of project feedback from students and teachers was very positive and included improved attainment and engagement in school and extra curricular activities, increased  self confidence and better peer relationships. The project was shown to benefit both high achieving and under-achieving students.

“the students really grew in confidence – particularly in wanting to share their writing. All of the students reported more positive feelings towards writing (in various forms including poetry, stories and factual writing) and an increased enjoyment in reading.”

Victoria Tully, Assistant Headteacher and Head of Year 7, Fulham Cross Girls’ School

This is what the students said:

“I loved writing about my personal opinions on things.”

“I liked working in pairs.”

” It helped me express myself in writing.”

“If you write for long and can’t think of anything then you write the same sentence and it all comes back with more ideas.”

“It taught me how to speak in groups because before I never would speak in groups.”

“We got to talk about what we were doing.”
